The Bolex

One of the greatest things I learned at Bard years ago was the beauty of the Bolex. It is the classic 16mm camera that used to be a staple of journalism and television news in the 50’s and was also an indispensable part of cinema throughout the last century and the pinnacle of countless indie & student films in the 80’s and 90’s. I am styling and shooting Taryn Manning‘s music video next week and will be using the Bolex for one of the days. I am so excited to get that camera in my hands again; I love the whir sound it makes when you’re shooting. It is literally music to my ears.

Knockout Knockoffs

There was some press today about a Target bag that looks remarkably similar to the Proenza Schouler messenger bag. It’s interesting because I was having this exact dialogue, which is certainly not news at all in the fashion industry, with a couple of friends at dinner the other night. I found this amazing late 60’s Gucci bag above at a vintage shop in Bel Air a few months back and was shocked at how identical it was to the Dior saddle bag that was so hugely popular years ago when Galliano first started at Dior. And then a friend pointed out the similarity of Continue reading

Nylon

Nylon magazine had a great party last night at Tru in Hollywood to celebrate their April issue featuring five separate cover girls including Abbie Cornish. I’ve worked with Abbie a few times and think she is amazing so am dying to see her new film “Sucker Punch” which finally opens today. One of my other favorite girls, Taryn Manning, was DJ’ing the event, spinning rad tunes including sneak peaks from her new album which we are shooting the video for next week (more on that later…) The night wouldn’t be complete without some reminiscing about the old days with Marvin Jarrett, who founded and edits the magazine. I remember meeting Marvin for the first time in an Continue reading

Cut Copy

Need You Now by cutcopymusic
I love this track, “Need You Now” from Australia’s Cut Copy. Their latest album was released earlier this year on January 25th by Modular Recordings and this weekend they are headlining the Ultra Music Festival in Miami along with Erasure, Duran Duran, Tiesto and hottie David Guetta.

Estée Lauder, Bronze Goddess Soleil

This summer Estée Lauder is launching Bronze Goddess Soleil inspired by the hues and atmosphere of the French Rivieria. I shield my face from the sun religiously so love a good bronzer and am always on the lookout for a great one to try which their new Limited Edition Bronze Goddess Sea Star Bronzing Blush promises to be. Am obsessed with the design and presentation of it as well.

The Corner of 3rd & Sweetzer…

…Has become the corner of my health Mecca. Whenever my body starts feeling cranky from 5″ heels and the non-stop pace we all go at, I run (sometimes shuffle) to the Pain Relief Center and My Pilates Body. Gulia at the Pain Relief center is my massage therapist (she is there on Thursdays) and for $75 I get 45 minutes to not only release the tension in my body but also my mind as she lets me rehash my day, week or month depending on when I am seeing her. I have been going to her for almost three years now and I swear it’s better than therapy. Tom Marinaro is the chiropractor Continue reading

Jil Sander for Uniqlo

Jil Sander‘s newest collection for Uniqlo hits stores today. I was bummed when she sold her namesake company years ago and it is always exciting to see what she is up to. I can not rave enough about what a genius idea it was for her to work with Uniqlo. Such a perfect simple union.

La Prairie, New For Spring

Kind of obsessed with the colors and packaging of the Cellular Treatment Eye Colour Ensemble Les Calla Lilies from La Prairie. It is part of “Bouquet de Jardin” Spring / Summer 2011 colour collection ($50-70) created by their Colour Ambassador Raychel Wade. I love this line in general because it tends to deliver as promised and the new stuff for Spring looks amazing. Also obsessing over their Continue reading

Obermeyer

There was so much happening the weekend I went to AFW that I forgot to post on this amazing jacket Obermeyer sent me. I swear, as I was waiting to get picked up at the airport in Aspen I saw a girl wearing a jacket very similar to the one above and made a mental note that it was a style I did not have and would need for next year’s Sundance Film Festival. Yes, it seems far away but I have learned that a year flies by in a month these days… Well, lo and behold I arrive at my hotel and there is this jacket waiting for me. Needless to say, I was pleased. The photo doesn’t do it justice (or allow you to see the cool leopard print lining), it fits like a glove and is cut perfectly to the body.
