John Currin has a batch of amazing new paintings up at Gagosian Gallery in New York through December 23rd. I may just make it before they come down…

William Rast for Target

Justin Timberlake’s William Rast line which debuted in 2005 just did a collaboration with Target that will hit stores December 19th. There’s cute stuff for both men and women but I’m obsessed with this guy’s army green jacket for myself. I’m seeing it with a cute dress and brown riding boots…

KAWS

Rizzoli just released a new book of Kaws‘ work. I’ve been obsessed with him for years and remember when his pieces started popping up on phone booths and advertising stands around New York in the mid-90’s. I’m sure I was not the only one trying to figure out how to get my hands on whatever that was and how did it get inside the actual glass without destroying it… It tormented me for several years. He is having a book signing at The Standard in Miami if you happen to be there for Art Basel, this Friday December 3rd from 7-9pm. He also has a show up at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut through January 11, 2011 if you are heading that way.

The Ritz Carlton New Orleans

The Ritz Carlton in New Orleans is offering all kinds of over the top luxury packages in anticipation of Mardi Gras. For $59,000 guests can have the ‘Lundi Gras Ride of a Lifetime’ with town local hottie Harry Connick Jr. Two couples will ride with Mr. Connick Jr in his annual Krewe of Orpheus parade the day before Mardi Gras. The package obviously includes a stay at The Ritz. And maybe a make out session with Harry if we ask nicely? I stayed there in May and it’s amazing. New Orleans is officially one of my favorite American cities and I do not say that lightly. Mayle Pop Up

I actually bought a Mayle dress back in 2007 so when New York designer Jane Mayle decided to leave the fashion world in 2008 it came as a surprise for fans of the young Mayle line. Jane didn’t disappear for good thank goodness and has been slowly resurfacing. She recently did a capsule collection for the Sigerson Morrison Upper East Side store which included over 30 pieces with coats, dresses, handbags, and boots. The collection hit their 19 E. 71st Street store on September 22nd so undoubtedly there is nothing left of it now. But tomorrow Mayle is back again momentarily with a pop-up store in LA. The mini boutique will be open December 2nd thru 12th with a special limited edition Holiday 2010 collection, Kamikaze Full of Love. 8432 Melrose Place, West Hollywood.

Alejandro Ingelmo

Oh my… Are you kidding me? Alejandro Ingelmo is my new shoe god. His first store opened in October in New York and I am freaking out over his sexy heels. They have a gorgeous shape and subtle lines that make me want to never wear flats again, not that I was ever a big fan of the flat to begin with. I prefer to breathe and sleep in heels. Above and below are samples from his Spring Summer 2011 Collection. 51 Wooster Street in NYC, 646-692-8184 www.alejandroingelmo.com

Matt & Kim

I love this. Genius. Kind of obsessing over Matt & Kim in general and this video is pretty great. It won the Breakthrough Video Award at the 2009 MTV Awards and apparently the police intervention is not staged at all. The indie Brooklyn duo have been making music since 2006.

Cecil Beaton & The Art of The Scrapbook

Assouline has just published a beautiful book of British photographer Cecil Beaton’s collages and private scrapbooks. Beaton, who worked for fifty years non-stop starting in the late 20’s, mostly for Vogue, died in 1980. He was not only an amazing fashion and portrait photographer but also an Academy Award-winning stage and costume designer for films and the theater. An early champion of enjoying every creative outlet you have and the original photographer and stylist. Cecil Beaton: The Art of The Scrapbook by James Danziger is available online and at Assouline boutiques (there is one in LA on Melrose Place). The book is 11.5 x 14.4″ and 2,000 glorious images.

Sasha for Spoon

I love this photo from a shoot I did for Spoon Paris in 2001. I met Sasha during a casting for Spoon Men and photographed and styled him for a lot of magazines throughout my Moscow years including the Paris magazine French, Russian Harper’s Bazaar, iD London and Russian Playboy (in a men’s fashion shoot). He even appeared in an issue of Conde Nast Traveller when Marc Connolly and Lauren Goodman came to do a shoot in 2003 and needed a cute Russian guy in some of the shots. Ok, fine we also dated on and off for a few years. A lot of editors and photographers who went to Continue reading

Jalapeño Cranberry Couscous

I came up with this recipe about five years ago while cooking dinner for my ex boyfriend. It has since become my ‘signature’ dish as my ex dubbed it. You can add chicken** to it or put that on the side or leave it out all together. Either way it’s a relatively easy recipe and perfect for almost any occasion. For the vegans you can substitute raw cashews instead of Feta cheese. What you need…

1 box couscous
1 small bag of dried cranberries (about a cup)
1 whole fresh jalapeño pepper, sliced
1 red onion, diced
A few shallots, diced and chopped small
1 container of feta cheese, equal to about a cup of crumbled feta (or raw cashews)
Salt and Pepper to taste

Sauté the red onion, shallots and garlic in olive oil, mix in with the cooked couscous after you’ve prepared it separately (look on the box for cooking instructions, couscous takes ten minutes to make). Meanwhile slice the jalapeño and marinate in rice vinegar for 20 minutes. Combine crumbled feta, dried cranberries and Continue reading
