Anthropologie

I don’t know a single girl who doesn’t love Anthropologie and their quirky selection for house, home and closet. I shot one of their catalogs a few years back and wanted everything we had on set. Anthropologie is well known for having great buyers and an inventory of well established and up and coming contemporary designers. They also manage to scope out some great bags and shoes every season so it’s no surprise they have finally decided to open up a store to focus on just that. Anthropologie is opening an accessories-only store next week on October 29th in Chevy Chase, Maryland, the first of several new retail concepts the company will introduce in the coming year.

Vionnet Paris

Vionnet is a couture line launched by Madeleine Vionnet in Paris in 1912 and reborn in 2008 after being purchased by Matteo Marzotto and Gianni Castiglioni, who have both had their hands in many other well known fashion brands over the years including Valentino and Marni. Vionett is doing some beautiful shoes and bags. I am obsessed with the ones above. Madame Vionnet is also the one we have to thank for introducing the bias cut dress into fashion many years ago. Her designs have played an influence on countless designers in the last century and continue to inspire.

The Dry Bar

For all us curly haired blow out addicts next Friday The Dry Bar is finally opening a West Hollywood location. Alli Webb, the owner and genius behind this long needed concept in LA comes from years of hair styling experience and opened her first Dry Bar in Brentwood earlier this year in February. I am so impressed that someone finally opened a great affordable salon here in LA especially one that focuses on the one thing I am always looking for on the West Coast: the perfect blow out. As if their $35 blowouts weren’t enough, they also offer complimentary Mimosa’s while you get your hair blown out on weekends. Thanks Alli! www.thedrybar.com

Cole’s & Varnish

I finally made it down to Varnish last night, a full year after it opened. When I ran into Sasha Petrosky last Fall in New York and he told me he was planning on opening a bar in LA that November I immediately put it in my calendar with plans of being there the first night. That didn’t happen thanks to work, travel, schedules and the fact that time is flying at an unacceptable pace these days. I’ve known Sasha since he was tending bar at Von’s on Bleecker and Bowery. My college friends and I would go in there to drink wine on weekends. This was about two years before he opened his eponymous Milk & Honey down on Eldridge Street. He was already making plans for the place when I met him so it was exciting to watch his dream not only materialize but also grow and grow. A year or so after he opened Milk & Honey he let me do a fashion shoot there. The first Milk & Honey Continue reading

Cecconi’s Pumpkin Margarita

I love Fall and it is admittedly difficult to remember what month it is here let alone the season (sorry LA but going from 80 degrees to 70 is not a season) so it’s nice to be reminded that it is October, Halloween is almost upon us and it’s time for frothy pumpkin drinks. LA has a wonderful way of blending the native with the new. For years it was the only place you could get Jalopenos with your sushi. And so it somehow makes sense that the Pumpkin Margarita is born here at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood… 8764 Melrose Ave, 310.432.2000 www.cecconiswesthollywood.com

Glass: Double Old Fashioned
Garnish: grate fresh cinnamon stick over top
Method: shake and double strain over rocks
2 oz Don Julio anejo tequila
½oz pumpkin syrup
½oz fresh lime juice
1oz fresh pumpkin puree*
*(pumpkin from farmers market baked with cinnamon nutmeg & clove and pureed)

Bissinger’s

Last winter a generous soul sent me a box of goodies from Bissinger’s for the holidays. The box included a very healthy dark chocolate covered snack of sunflower seeds known as Sunflower Crunch. I have since become addicted to the entire line of Bissinger’s products which you can order online and occasionally find at local grocers (but trust me, the selection online is much better). Since the holidays are almost here it’s the perfect excuse to stock up. They make great gifts…

Satya Jewelry

Obsessed with this flower cuff from Satya Jewelry. They were in LA this week showing the line and this one caught my eye. The beaded stuff is not what I usually gravitate towards but I did find a few of the silver and metal pieces really sweet and beautiful. And I love the ethos behind the line.

Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren unveils his first women’s flagship boutique in New York today. The 22,000 square-foot Beaux Arts building is located at 888 Madison Avenue, just a few steps from the original one. I love Ralph Lauren’s all-American sexy and romantic looks. Am always obsessed with his riding boots especially, none of which are pictured above but I’m just saying…

Designer Archives Consignment Shop

A new consignment shop has opened up barely two weeks ago in the Beverly Glen Shopping center. Partnering up with Paris Hilton’s mom is part owner Tracy who told us that Paris donated a good bit of her swag to the second floor section, with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to Breast Cancer research and the Make A Wish Foundation. The downstairs boutique is crammed with the great usual suspects such as Lanvin, Gucci, Prada, Marni, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent consigned from friends and stylists around town. I got a little obsessed with a small vintage 1977 Gucci shoulder bag that is the spitting image of the Dior saddle bag… Hmm, interesting. Who knew? The place is open daily. 2934 Beverly Glen Circle, Los Angeles, CA 90077 310.470.3388
