Underworld Barking

Underworld has a new album out called Barking. The tracks are as sick as you would expect. So glad they finally released something new into the world. I am obsessed with this song and video.

Sophie Crumb

Sophie Crumb’s debut solo show opens November 4th in New York City at DCKT Contemporary. The exhibition coincides with the release of the monograph Sophie Crumb: Evolution of a Crazy Artist, edited by her parents R. Crumb & Aline Kominsky-Crumb and published by W. W. Norton. The drawings Crumb creates are based on her current experiences but with an eye on her unique and eccentric past. Her drawings and prints often depict events culled from her life in a small town in rural France, as well as periods of time in New York and Berkeley.

Catherine Opie at LACMA

LA based photographer Catherine Opie has a new show up at LACMA that I am looking forward to seeing later this week. For this series Opie points her camera art high-school football players across seven states, exploring issues of masculinity, community, and national identity. The exhibition is curated by Britt Salvesen, curator and head of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department, as well as the Prints and Drawings Department. Ms. Opie also has a book that came out in 2008 that looks gorgeous with a forward by Dorothy Allison, one of my favorite writers, who is way overdue for a new book herself. The LACMA show runs through October 17, 2010.

Gossip Girl

I indulged my guilty Gossip Girl pleasure last night and was happy to find not much has changed in regard to the smile it puts on my face. This season seems even more intent on exploring the joys of shopping, travel and sex. Three of my all time favorite activities. And the fairy tale of a prince charming always looming. I’m so into Michelle Trachtenbergs surprisingly excellent Russian too. Can’t wait to see how that plot line unravels. And am already feeling sorry for the poor blonde girl accompanying Chuck from Paris only to have her sweet innocent heart broken midway through the season I’m guessing. It is too good to be true, listen to your instinct! And of course there is Jessica Szohr, who is clearly one of my favorite girls from the show. Sweet, smart, talented and beautiful.

Roberto Cavalli Spring Summer 2011

Completely obsessed with the Pia Getty shredded desert hippie look at Roberto Cavalli. Love the tussled clothes paired with the sleek and chic bone straight hair. So sexy! Also loving seeing so much of Ruby Aldridge this season on the runways. I photographed her when she first started modeling three years ago in LA. She was not only stunning from day one but also funny and fun to work with. Ruby Aldrige walking Cavalli’s runway above and on a shoot from October 2007 below.

Brothers & Sisters Premier Party

I got hooked on the ABC’s Brothers and Sisters last year after watching a few episodes on Hulu. Theirs is the quintessential American Dream family that I still fantasize about every time I watch the show or see Diane Keaton play the mom in a film. It’s the best kind of family fluff and I am looking forward to another season of family dramas and heartfelt moments. This past Saturday Bacardi hosted the 5th season premiere party for the show in a penthouse loft at the Haas Building in downtown Los Angeles. Sally Field, Rachel Griffiths, Dave Annable, Matthew Rhys, Luke MacFarlane, Executive Producer Ken Olin and fellow cast and crew members were there before viewing Sunday nights premiere episode. Sonic Youth at The Hollywood Bowl

Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore are living legends. I let a friend of mine talk me out of taking my old vinyl to set for them to sign when I photographed them years ago and still regret it. I haven’t scanned those negatives yet so don’t have them to post but it’s on my endless to do list. Sonic Youth plays The Hollywood Bowl this Thursday. Enough said. An oldie but goodie below.

Aperlai in Paris

We all know by now that I am obsessed with Burak Uyan for Aperlai. Not only because they are beautiful shoes but also because I am so proud of my old friend Srdjan Prodanovic for being a part of this amazing launch. Srdjan and I met while he was still working with Giambattista Valli at Emanuel Ungaro years ago and became fast friends. Luckily he travels to LA quite a bit these days so I actually get to see him outside of Paris. If you do happen to be in Paris for the shows next week check out the new Burak Uyan collection, by appointment, from October 2nd thru 9th at 217 Rue de Saint Honore next to the über fashionable Colette Boutique.

Rock Republic Jeans

About a month ago I was given a pair of new Rock Republic jeans, the “5 Pocket Kashmere Denim Leggings with Faux Front Pocket and Sexy R Back Pocket Detail” to be exact. I got obsessed with them and wore them all throughout this last fashion week in New York. According to friends I looked insanely skinny in them which is always a plus. They feel like butter and are seriously one of the most comfortable jeans I have ever worn. Full disclosure, the image above is not of said jeans but you can see and order the Kashmere leggings on the Rock Republic site.
