The Couture Dominatrix

Let’s call this the couture dominatrix look (*or the Peter Lindbergh circa 1989 super model look I will never tire of). Sometimes I get so bored with how safe everyone is with fashion I just want to wear a gown to Key Foods. I beat this subject to a pulp as a stylist in LA, where at some events the most you could hope for on the red carpet was a prom dress that didn’t come off the rack, which is sad considering how much gorgeous fashion is out there. I love this tulle gown from Alberta Ferretti, a suede hat from Maison Michel, boots from Moschino and a Givenchy shark tooth nail necklace. More gowns to wear to a gala, a party, a photo shoot on the beach or the grocery store below. Continue reading

Floating Points, King Bromeliad

Great track from UK based Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points. Let it play a few seconds, it’s a slow build and then the beat comes into focus. Perfect for summer parties. (Lots of BBQs this weekend!)

USA

If we actually wore this outfit to Thursday’s final qualifying game the US is playing against Germany (12noon at any bar within five feet of you) we would definitely be the odd woman out but let’s not over think it, wouldn’t be the first time. Obviously we are all still reeling from that last second loss to Portugal on Sunday and thinking of cute red, white and blue outfits is taking my mind off the heartbreak. Givenchy stars and stripes t-shirt, Scoop nautical stripe canvas rope tote, Alice and Olivia Laine Puff skirt, and Christian Louboutin heels. If you can handle it, watch the heartbreak here.

A Life of Diana Vreeland

diana book cover

Over the weekend, in between football games, I finished this incredible book by Amanda Mackenzie Stuart, which I added to my summer reading list. The most interesting and thorough over view of this phenomenal woman’s life. It made me miss working for Polly Mellen, who I only assisted for one year before she retired. What an amazing history, so much creativity, strength, beauty and power to change the world we exist in. I know I was always supposed to be in awe of Ms. Vreeland because she invented the career that I have worked, lived and loved for so long but I never really knew the details of her life or the true manner in which she affected so much. I love this book.
