We checked out the Paris Photo show last night at their opening night event (*with champagne thanks to Armani who sponsored the Aqua 3 exhibit by Jim Goldberg). I’m going back to geek out on the work and listen to some of the artists speak on Saturday, when the show is open to the public from 12noon to 7pm all weekend. There’s some great work in the corners we managed to see amidst the eclectic crowd. Gregory Crewdson (who is speaking at 2pm on Saturday), Larry Fink, Diane Arbus, Katy Grannan (Katy and I used to be signed to the same photo agent, Bill Charles, my Continue reading →
I am just as excited about Gatsby, which opens May 10th, as is the rest of the world (*or at least our part of the world…) The preview alone (watch below) is a brilliant short film all on its own so I can imagine how good Baz Luhrmann‘s real thing is. If you’re a music fan the soundtrack is going to be insane. They’ve started releasing some of the tracks onto the world this week, including Sia‘s “Kill and Run” as well as The XX track “Together” and Lana Del Ray‘s “Young & Beautiful” (listen to all three below). And let’s not forget all the fashion inspiration that will come of this, plus a Fitzgerald revival (as if he really needs one… who doesn’t love the romantically tragic melancholy of a rich Continue reading →
NY based designer Marissa Webb was in LA this week and we went to see her second collection today at the Sunset Marquis where she was bunkering with her rad PR maven Megan Maguire Steel. I just saw the collection in NY during their press preview a few weeks ago while back in town shooting for Club Monaco (*those pics come out in May!) but honestly, I can’t get enough of looking at her designs. I LOVE what Marissa does and pulled a lot of pieces from her first collection for my clients over the past couple of months. She has a great eye for shapes and cuts and does seemingly simple classics in an exciting new way. Sick heels from the new fall 2013 collection above and more to covet below. I want EVERYTHING. NY-based (*and everyone’s favorite melancholy photographer… who doesn’t remember the first time they saw “The Ballad of Sexual Dependency”) Nan Goldin is having an opening at Matthew Marks Gallery in LA this Friday April 26th from 6pm to 8pm at 1062 North Orange Grove while Pasadena artist Tim Hawkinson opens at Pace Gallery in NY Thursday, May 2nd from 6pm to 8pm at 508 West 25th Street. Both shows are up through June 22nd. Above, Nan Goldin, Chimera, 2013, Chromogenic print, 27 3/8 x 40 inches; 70 x 102 cm and below, Tim Hawkinson’s “Seahorse”. Continue reading →
Happy Monday lovelies! A photo we took in LA a couple of years ago above, it’s also up on a newly updated version of my website that we re-did last month with new images. This week is all about being happy. Good work, good friends and reuniting with family. Choose to be happy.
I know it seems I have been on a serious Tory Burch kick lately and I have. But it has nothing to do with the fact that one of my favorite people in the world (one Ms. Esther Song) is their fabulous PR gal here in LA. I swear it’s entirely based on the fact that Tory has been killing it with gorgeous collections, especially the accessories. Love this Ambrosia shell sandal from spring 2013.
Just got a gorgeous book in the mail from Pelluceo Publishing. New Zealand born photographer Paul Nathan shot a pretty diverse group of guys and gals from Williamsburg, Brooklyn with all kinds of ink in all kinds of places. As I flipped through the pages of Generation Ink I kept looking for familiar faces from over the years but found not a single one, which tells me two things: 1) I am no longer in my twenties and 2) there are hundreds of thousands of tattooed bodies and faces in Williamsburg so impossible to get them all. Love the book. It has a simple beauty in it’s straightforward approach to the portraits. Some of the bodies below. Continue reading →
