Mary Kate & Ashley Launch Bags, Party with InStyle

elizabeth-james-cheetah bag

InStyle celebrated Mary Kate and Ashley’s latest handbag collection for their Elizabeth and James line last night at the Penthouse of The Chateau with lots of LA’s familiar faces, along with a few from NY. The bag line looks great, which is no surprise as the girls have proven over the years time and time again they have a flawless eye for style. Below, some pics from the shindig, where I spent much of my night eating cupcakes (yes, cycling be damned!) and waxing poetic about Fruitvale Station, my favorite film from this year’s Sundance Film Festival, with the film’s lead actress (another fellow New Yorker) Malonie Diaz. Our old friend, Lina Kutsovskaya, who is now the Creative Director of Sephora, showed up as well, turns out Sephora is doing a perfume with the twins! Continue reading

This Saturday at One Colorado in Pasadena KCRW is hosting one of its Summer Nights with DJ Dan Wilcox spinning and Mr. Little Jeans going on live. It looks awesome. And out of the kindness of their hearts, it’s free. I am going. Who is in? An old Joe’s shot above. It just feels like a summer night.

Joe Arthur, The Ballad of Boogie Christ

LOVE this track, “The Saint of Impossible Causes,” off Joe Arthur‘s The Ballad of Boogie Christ, which came out last week. I met Joe a few times at Adria Petty‘s house parties years ago when she lived in the East Village. Adria and I met in the spring of 2002 on a photo shoot I did for Nylon in Berlin (it was my first shoot for Nylon) while she was writing about films for Marvin Jarrett. We became fast film friends and Joe was a friend of hers and Anna Gabriel. I listened to the other tracks on this album and each one is spot on. I know exactly which one of my friends is getting this for her birthday. You know who you are chicita. Joe is playing the Troubadour this Thursday June 20th.

Happy Father’s Day

C

Happy Father’s day to my father, and my dad, both of whom I love so much. My dad married my mom when I was 17 in Baltimore, and he is the best father I’ve ever had. He has been there for every major event and heart break, paid for countless trips to the car repair shop in high school and always stood by me through mistakes and triumphs. My father, who mom and I left behind in Moscow when we emigrated was wonderful all those brief years I got to spend with him and all the moments I got to know him again when we reunited when I was 21 and returned to Moscow for the first time in fifteen years, until he passed away in 1999. Above, my father with his mother and my grandmother in January 1995, in Moscow. Happy Father’s Day to all of the amazing men who help shape us.
