Free People White Lace Vintage Dress

Example A of why some girls don’t need to spend 25K on a wedding dress. Love this white lace vintage dress from Free People. Fine, it will look just as good with some beat up boots and a denim jacket for Coachella but it will also be killer for a wedding on the beach or in the woods… I’m thinking an old 19th century mansion in upstate New York, with lots of Lilly of The Valley, and wooden picnic tables and chairs outside for the reception… wait, what just happened?…

Sundance 2013, Ones To Watch

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Sundance announced its list of films for January. From Robert Redford, “Every great film starts with an idea, and it is a testament to artists that they continually find new ideas, new stories, new points of view and new ways of sharing them, year after year. We look forward to hearing from these artists not just through their words and images onscreen but also through the larger dialogue they create with audiences at our Festival and beyond.'” I couldn’t agree more. When you get up close you realize every film is a small miracle. So excited about this year’s lineup. These are ones I am dying to see. Above, a still from I Used to Be Darker directed by Matthew Porterfield, written by Amy Belk and Matthew Porterfield, about a runaway seeking refuge with her aunt and uncle in Baltimore, (B’more!) starring Deragh Campbell, Hannah Gross, Kim Taylor, Ned Oldham, Geoff Grace, and Nick Petr. Day Look, Sundance is Around the Corner!

Truth be told, of all the things I get to do in a year, and I get to do some seriously fabulous things, Sundance is by far my favorite. It is the perfect marriage of film and fashion, satisfying every fiber of my Russian soul that craves crisp snowy weather. So as soon as it nears I begin thinking of all the sweaters, scarves and boots I get to drag out of hiding from my sunny in LA closet. Love this Coach shearling coat, over a Rag & Bone pullover and Marc by Marc jeans with Oscar de la Renta sunglasses, Brunello Cucinelli lurex fringe scarf and a large leather bag from Vivienne Westwood for my Sundance supplies: schedule, sunscreen, snacks and a magazine to read while waiting in the press line. Woohoo! Let the films begin! I’ll post my “Ones To watch” film list tomorrow. Continue reading

Bikini Kill Reissue

Legendary Olympia babes Bikini Kill just reissued their self titled first EP. It came out in 1991 and was recorded in DC and produced by Ian MacKaye. 1991 is a magical year for many reasons aside from being the year I graduated high school. I remember Bikini Kill well. 1991 was also the year I went to the last Positive Force show in DC, that night Government Issue played one of their last shows as well. I was still organizing punk all ages shows in Baltimore and had just started talking with Ian about playing a show with Fugazi, who I had recently seen play their first show in downtown Baltimore. That show never happened but a few years later Ian agreed to be in my senior film project at Bard. It was a magical time all around. Watch the gals perform “Suck My Left One” live below. Moschino Cheap & Chic, Pre Fall 2013

Not sure why we need to see PRE Fall 2013 in November 2012 (I actually had to look at my calendar to double check the date when I saw the Moschino Cheap & Chic collection on WWD this morning) but it’s cute, including some mod inspired looks (love the creepers and suspenders!) so I’ll over look the insanity of it. Overlooking insanity is so much of my every day life now anyway. Continue reading
