Preen for Aldo

As if I needed another excuse to write about Aldo but since they’re collaborating with one of my favorite lines I need to. Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi of Preen will be doing a collection of shoes that will debut at Preen’s Spring 2012 NY runway show in September. Stay tuned for pics of the collaboration, which the bag above is not a part of but yet another piece from Aldo I have been obsessing over and trying not to post since I give them way too much love as it is…

Huntington Gardens & Tea Room

It’s only appropriate that the weekend Will & Kate descend onto Los Angeles (Hancock Park to be exact), I end up at a Tea Room for lunch. Yesterday afternoon a friend invited me to Huntington Gardens‘ Tea Room amidst roses, scones and gardens of every kind. I know I’ve been talking about throw pillows and table decor lately but this is just a whole new level of love for me. I could live there. And eat scones and finger sandwiches at every meal. So fun, beautiful and relaxing. How did I miss this place before? My new hangout: the Tea Room in Pasadena. I do wish I was in Santa Barbara for the Polo match today but since my invite got lost in the mail, instead and in honor of my favorite royals I will be volunteering at the Midnight Mission today.

Azzedine Alaia Fall 2011 Couture

This is Azzedine Alaia‘s first runway show in eight years which only underlies how cool the man is. I love how he manages to ignore everyone’s rules, demands and commercial restrictions and still earns the love and respect he deserves from the fashion world. He sticks to his timeless classics and the world he lives in and everyone just lets him be and do. Fashion is a fickle bunch for sure. Continue reading

Nine West Wedge

I’m not usually a fan of wedges but this summer I keep finding ones that are making me consider an alternative to the heels I usually go for. Love these ones from Nine West in stores now.

Ciel Spa & YogaWorks

Ok, so this is not exactly where you would be doing yoga if you end up taking advantage of the FREE yoga classes that SLS just announced but it is definitely where I want to end up after (or maybe instead… just kidding…) SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills has partnered their in house spa Ciel with YogaWorks to offer free classes Sunday mornings to hotel guests and anyone else who wants to join. Classes start this Sunday July 10th, 9-10am, are first come first serve and should definitely be booked in advance. They also offer one on one classes, facials and the usual array of spa offerings but obviously those aren’t free… Call to sign up for yoga or book a spa day, 310-247-0400.

Erica Courtney for QVC

Love these bangles from Erica Courtney who also just did a sweet new line for QVC. I love that she uses recycled metals, eco-friendly processes and “the most ethically obtained gems.” She’s also big on asking clients to bring in gemstones from their own jewelry collections to be to used for her designs thus minimizing the need for mining. The bangles above are available here.

Theophilus London

Theophilus London – “I Stand Alone” by TheophilusLondon

Theophilus London is an amalgam of everything I love: electropop, hip hop, with an under tone of the 70’s and 80’s, all with an experimental multilayered sound. Genius. I had the same reaction to Santigold, M.I.A. and Die Antwoord, this is big and it’s only going to get bigger. He’s playing the Troubadour in LA next Monday July 18th and Bowery Ballroom in his hometown of NYC on the 21st which is where I will be tapping my toes, eyes closed, heaven. His debut album, Timez Are Weird These Days, comes out worldwide on Warner Bros Records July 19th. Dying over the track “I Stand Alone” and the track and video below for “Last Name London”… ridiculous, the entire album is insane. Can’t wait to see him at Coachella next year… Continue reading

Joe’s Jeans Ads, Old & New

Joe’s Jeans unveiled a new ad campaign this week featuring Paz De La Huerta, a born and bred New Yorker, which instantly makes me love her, plus she is a cool and interesting actress and I am dying for The Linda Lovelace Story she is in with Malin Akerman to come out (or at least start shooting)… totally off subject but definitely worth mentioning. Anyway, I shot a few of the Joe’s Jeans ad campaigns in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and always find it interesting to see what they are doing. When I did my first meeting with Joe Dahan in 2007 he looked at my book of tear sheets from magazines I had worked for and the image above of Karolina Wydra from a 2001 Russian Harper’s Bazaar shoot caught his eye. It made perfect sense because it had that infamous backside he loves to put in his ads but it also had a subtlety we all liked for the campaign. At our next meeting Joe decided he wanted a nude girl walking down the street in Continue reading
