The Ghosts

This Ghosts show at The Mandrake already passed but I just remembered I took this photo with my phone while putting money in the meter on my way to meet a friend for a drink at Cafe Figaro in Los Feliz. I meant to go but have been a tad forgetful these days. “Stay The Night” was actually released way back in 2007. I am admittedly a little late to the party but obsessed nonetheless.

Dragan Mrdja

Last night after stopping by Scott Campbell‘s LA debut (see below) I went to DAP’s new ArtBook showroom at Paper Chase where a lot of familiar LA fashion world faces stopped by to see a preview of the Loden Dager Fall 2011 Collection. My friends Magda Berliner and Gregory Parkinson were there along with Vogue editor Lisa Love and one of my favorite shoe designers, Dragan Mrdja. Dragan was telling me he recently opened a small boutique in an existing space at 67 Prince Street and Crosby in NYC. His shoes are amazing, beautiful small works of art in themselves. Obsessed.

Tequila by Casa Dragones

Seems appropriate that on a night like last night there would be amazing tequila around. Casa Dragones is one of the best I have ever had. Incredibly smooth and 100% pure agave, it goes down like silk and has no aftertaste whatsoever. It’s not cheap but worth every dollar. Love the label too.

Scott Campbell at OHWOW

My old friend from NYC Scott Campbell had his LA debut last night at OHWOW gallery’s inaugural show. The work is phenomenal, I was blown away and it was so great to see Scott who is still one of the nicest guys I know. He deserves all the success he gets not only because he is truly talented in every sphere he touches but also because he is just a great guy. He meticulously sculpted classic tattoo imagery out of uncut sheets of dollars directly from the US Mint to create the works. The piece below used $5,000 worth of currency sheets to create a three dimensional skull carving.

Typical Girls

Our Real Is Real (Brother Bruno’s HELLS BELLS Remix) by Typical Girls
Typical Girls is the first solo project of Ilirjana Alushaj of Apache Beat and The Pop Manifesto, it’s kind of like a more synth induced version of Siouxsie, especially this mix, released in Janaury.

Riccardo Tisci Headed To Dior

It will come as no surprise when the annoncement is finally made that Riccardo Tisci will be heading over to Dior so the next question is who will take over Givenchy? Those will be some big shoes to fill as Tisci has been blowing it out of the water for many seasons now and his Dior will no doubt be stronger than ever. I would guess Continue reading

Vintazia Vintage

There is a great new vintage nook in Hollywood. Susie Londoner started collecting vintage at 16 years old and a few weeks ago opened the doors to her home where she has created the perfect vintage shopping experience. Not only is the cozy space crammed with authentic vintage finds but the experience itself becomes more like shopping with your sisters with wine and cheese, cookies and coffee in between. Previously Susie had “invested in creating an eBay store but it was very time consuming and just not a lot of fun.” So she decided to create her ideal shopping experience. Prices range between $20 to $350 with a great mix of high and low end, select vintage pieces spanning every decade from the 20s to the 80s. I could have sat for hours drinking wine and listening to the ex-ballerina’s stories of years spent dancing with the New York City Ballet (1974 to 1985), with George Balanchine in the shadows. My favorite story by far was her first big role at age seven. “I was chosen as Clara for the Nutcracker at seven and my parents didn’t bring me to my 1st rehearsal because it was my brothers birthday so when I showed up the next day Mr. Balanchine said ‘sorry dear, you have to be at all the rehearsals’ and that was that… I knew it was a calamity. Not sure I recovered for 30 years…” She did however go on to many years in the ballet, which allowed for plenty of travel to find the hidden gems she has finally decide to share with the world. I even found a cute little white lace dress for $40 that I am obsessed with. If you go, tell her I sent you and she will give you the family friendly discount of 10% off your first purchase. Susie photographed by Arthur Elgort in her ballerina days below. Call or email Susie for an appointment to shop. Japan

There is really just no way I can keep writing about all the amazing things I get to do on a daily basis without at least touching on what is happening in Japan. I know it’s not the purpose of this blog and there are certainly a lot of other outlets that relay all of it faster and do it better but I just need to at least acknowledge it. And to once more sound the grateful bell for the moments we have and enjoy because really it is all fleeting and there is never a moment or reason to complain. I wish there was more I could do but the best I can is all I can and that means posting a link to where you can donate to the Red Cross and just praying that with all the dignity and strength the Japanese have already displayed, they will rebuild and heal sooner rather than later. Prayers & love.

Aspen Fashion Week 2011

JCC + Rossignol Show

I flew to Aspen in a 24-hour whirlwind over the weekend to see what the folks at Aspen Fashion Week were up to. I left LA at 6am Sunday morning and landed in Aspen at 3pm… that includes a layover and 2 hour delay in Denver. Lucky for me I love to travel, even more so when it allows me time to catch up on my reading. And I was totally impressed with it all. I loved the secluded vibe of the whole event, loved sitting in the sun draped snowy foothills beneath the St.Regis, sipping hot chocolate and watching the girls & guys go by on the runway. The town Continue reading
