Oscars 2014, InStyle Viewing Party

Lupita Nyong'o dress

This was a great Oscars. Along with having beautiful gals to dress, I thought the show itself on Sunday night was the best I’ve ever seen. Ellen was funny, the awards were really well deserved and the speeches (Jared and Lupita!) were so inspirational and moving. It was a perfect night. I loved Lupita Nyongo’s Prada dress. Below are some of our dresses from the night, which we spent at the InStyle Viewing party, packed with friends and gorgeous faces. Ben Affleck showed up at the end and got showered with love from a slew of Olympian champs (they were amazing!) Also some shots from our fittings during the week, which were smooth, easy and a lot of fun. Continue reading

Vanity Fair Spa Day with Lancome & Clarisonic

photo-36

Leave it to Vanity Fair’s Campaign Hollywood to make my day and treat us to manis and pedis by Lancome, facials and massages with expert Montage Spa hands, all much appreciated in the middle of Oscars week. In between yesterday’s fittings I indulged in some serious beauty action at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills where Vanity Fair‘s Beauty Director Sunhee Grinnell was hosting a day of pampering. Clarisonic launched a Pedi brush for your feet and it was magical, better than all the glycolic pedi’s in the world. Oh, and yes, that is the gift bag, which was pretty magical as well. I ate a Bouchon macaroon for breakfast this morning too. Screw the carb free diet, that caramel one was the bomb. Continue reading

Little Failure, Gary Shteyngart

little failure

From the Ukraine to Moscow, Vienna, Rome and New York and for us finally, Baltimore, Gary Shteyngart‘s memoir is basically a retelling of my Russian childhood, adolescence and 20s from a male perspective. I picked it up at The Strand this weekend (where I also lived starting in the early 90s, and which was the cause of the great clutter in my Lower East Side apartment twenty years later) and have been laughing hysterically at every page. From the medical “banki” to the Mau Mau books he keeps on his shelves after graduating Oberlin and the constant disappointment from his parents at not having gone to law school, it is like looking in the mirror. Substitue Continue reading

Panasonic Beauty Bar

LUMIX GM1

Panasonic hosted a beauty bar during NY fashion week to celebrate their Nanoe™ Beauty Tools, which were a hit and gave a killer blow out. In a small corner of the room they also had these great little cameras on display that I toyed with while I was there sipping my Skinny Girl cocktail and picking up the new limited edition Carmex Moisture Plus lip balm. The Lumix GM1 is super compact and easy, with a detachable lense (don’t bring it to Coachella) and a 16 megapixel sensor, which shoots both HD video and high quality photos. I love the old school design too. Continue reading

House of Cards, Season Two

Kate Mara

My LA friends keep bragging about 80 degree weather in February to which I saw boo! because the pressure to go outside and enjoy the day is too much. Only in NYC during a snowstorm can you watch twenty hours of television guilt free. So take your sun and I will take Netflix. It would be redundant to say Netflix is brilliant and the next big thing. That was obvious last year within five minutes of watching the first season of House of Cards and reiterated again in the first episode of season two which I swallowed whole this past weekend. Yes, binge watching at it’s best. If you haven’t seen the season premier, spoiler alert, what happens to Kate Mara’s character will make you stand WAY far away from the tracks for the rest of your life. New York magazine did a great profile on her in this week’s issue, which is where I snagged the portrait above by Lauren Dukoff. Continue reading
