Versus Versace Fall 2015

versus-versace-016-1366

I’ve been feeling uninspired lately. Art looks the same, magazines look the same, fashion looks the same. This happens to the best of us sometimes and this is that time for me. Ever since I was an angry teen I have found my inspiration in films, art and music. Of course that is still the case but lately I am feeling ‘meh’ with little exception (*Sundance!). Fashion can be an easy fix for the ‘mehs’ and since it is still one of my favorite F words I browsed the collections from fall again today and found this. A little classic Versus Versace action, which reminds me of a time way back when… The summer of 1999 I worked on the Versus men’s show in Milan while on vacation from assisting Polly Mellen. Yup. I took my vacation to work. I couldn’t really afford to send myself to Europe on my own so working for KCD as a collection coordinator assistant (alongside Katie Mossman) was the best option. Though the hours were long, it never really felt like work. Being around gorgeous clothes at the Versace “house” on Via Gesu, staring at hot young guys in castings all day and eating fresh Italian food every night was a pretty great vacation. Thanks Donatella. Continue reading

Venus Gallery LA

Venus Gallery

Two weekends ago I went to the opening of Dan Colen’s solo show at the new downtown LA Venus Gallery, the latest NY expat to jump to the West Coast. Run by Adam Lindemann, who started the Upper East Side version, Venus Over Los Angeles opened it’s doors with Colen’s “Viscera,” an exploration of road trips. The space itself it gorgeous, 14,000 square feet, which makes it perfect for all kinds of shows. Reminds me of Chelsea 20 years ago. 601 South Anderson Street.

Soft pink is the perfect partner to almost any other shade, for winter or summer, layer upon layer it rarely disappoints. I love these Aquazzura strappy suede sandals, Saint Laurent Tribute platform sandals, Guiseppe Zanotti nude pink leather coline stiletto sandals, and Jimmy Choo ‘Patara’ cork wedge leather sandals.

The Short Film We Made in The Desert

Nostalgia for my film school days has taken over, so I decided to go to the desert and make a short film about a girl on the road, go figure. A few weeks ago we drove out to Moab, stayed at Under Canvas where we spent two days making this fashion film, which I spent last week editing in LA. Film is magic, it really is. Thanks to Ulla Johnson and Johnny Was for letting me borrow the cool clothes, and of course the gown from Delphine Manivet that has lived a thousand lives this year, from Paris to Nashville, to the red carpet, a best dressed list and now running through the desert with the boys.

Basic Must Haves Every Woman Needs

Army jacket choiesmarc mini skirtBlk denim skirt madewellbalmain blazer

There are certain things every woman needs in her closet, basics that not only last forever as far as style is concerned, but comfy pieces that round out most looks when you are layering for any occasion. I am a firm believer that every closet needs a casual army jacket to layer over jeans, dresses, even night time date looks depending on where you are headed. The color never goes out of style and this vintage army jacket is perfect. A black cotton mini and basic denim skirt are two great versatile pieces to dress up or down; shiny tops and heels, t-shirts and converse, along with button down shirts, heels and blazers, neither will ever go out of circulation. Speaking of buttons Continue reading

Coachella 2015, The Parties

photo 4 copy

This year, as always, there were as many parties as there were bands at Coachella. Our favorite spot quickly became Sparrows Lodge, a recently renovated 20 room boutique hotel that opened it’s doors about six months ago. This weekend, starting Friday through Sunday noon to 5pm, The Retreat was the most chill place in the desert, with a mellow crowd enjoying beauty touch ups from the Glam Squad, nails by Vanity Projects, massages and facials from Soothe, new sunnies from Ray Ban, Kiehls beauty products including plenty of sunscreen, chic headphones from Caeden, food from NYC’s LES favorite, The Fat Radish, alongside my beloved Whispering Angel Rose, and a portrait studio by Vanity Fair. New friends and old friends showed up for the weekend, which felt like a mini vacation. Friday night H&M hosted their annual event at The Parker, where Pandora was putting on fashion shows and brunches throughout the three day festival. PopSugar and Shopstyle also threw several swanky soirees including a CFDA brunch with Cynthia Vincent and Mara Hoffman Saturday morning and Jeremy Scott had his traditional bash at Frank Sinatra’s house. The Bots

IMG_3097-2

The Bots brothers from Gendale California, Mikaiah and Anaiah Lei, played a show at Club Bahia Wednesday night, which is where I snapped a quick portrait of the sweet punk duo just before sound check for the show. Their music landed in my inbox a few months ago, shortly after their debut album, Pink Palms, was released last October. I got hooked on their old school hardcore sound, reminiscent of all my favorite local bands of the 80s and 90s while growing up in the music scene of Baltimore and DC. They are playing the Sweetlife Festival in Columbia Maryland May 30th & 31st. Anaiah and Mikaiah above, photographed at Club Bahia Wednesday April 8th. I was also happy to see that Thrasher is alive and well. Check out the video for “All I Really Want,” below. Continue reading

Esosa

I love this new line, Esosa, out of NY, especially this pleated skirt. In their 3rd season now, the line was launched by costume designer Emilio Sosa & stylist David De La Cruz.
