Coachella 2014

Every year I put up a list of my favorite Coachella must haves but really how hard is it to remember to bring a hat, good sunscreen, comfortable shoes (boots! they keep the dust out), sunglasses, a scarf and light sweater for the chilly desert nights, and a bag to put it all in. Yeah, it’s not hard. Though I will add something to this year’s beauty routine that I am fixated on: Dr. Perricone’s Photo Plasma anti-aging moisturizer with SPF 30. It is magical, I promise, and with everything you are putting your skin through in the desert this one hits the mark in every way. Anyway, this year I thought I would do a list of all the bands I want to see but won’t because I will be in NYC. Yes, for the first time in six years I will not be getting dusty and dirty with the rest of you but I will send love and hydrated thoughts your way. Don’t drink too much but have one for me… Continue reading

Mistaken For Strangers

The National

The best documentaries are the ones that veer fearlessly into an unknown direction, where the viewer uncovers layers both painful and painfully funny, that the director himself may not even realize until the editing room. That is the brilliant film Tom Berninger made while attempting to make a “doc rock” on his older brother (by nine years) Matt Berninger’s band, The National. Shot in 2010 during the band’s tour for their “High Violet” album, Mistaken for Strangers is a beautiful first film about music, life, love, loss, family, and the complicated nature of being brothers. Kind of by Continue reading

Jasmin Shokrian, Fall 2014

photo-54

LA-based designer Jasmin Shokrian was in NYC last week with her gorgeous new collection. Fall 2014 is a tightly edited, well-shaped reflection of what Jasmin does so well: thoughtful clothes with her distinct voice, which are sublimely wearable. I fell in love with everything especially the coats. Continue reading

Spring Fling Shoes

Spring is here! Sort of. It is warm enough to bring out some peep toes though. And these Isabel Marant boots are insane. Clockwise from the top after the Milla suede ankle boot insanity, Givenchy platform shark lock sandal, Guiseppe Zanotti heels, and Valentino camo pointed pumps.

Chris Gelinas, Fall 2014

photo-53

After graduating Parsons Chris Gelinas went to work at some serious A-list design houses, starting with an internship at Marc Jacobs in 2006 followed by jobs at Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler, and Theyskens’ Theory, all of which makes him a serious one to watch. Now that he’s won the Made for Peroni Young Designer Award, he will be a must see at next season’s shows. I saw his second collection (his debut was in September 2013) at Paul Wilmot yesterday and it’s pretty sweet. Continue reading

RIP, L’Wren Scott

photo-52

There is something so jarring and heartbreaking about suicide, which leaves me with a desperate desire to try and understand. Especially in the world we live in, where our lives seem shiny and perfect to the outside world, it seems hard to grasp but when you look beneath the facade, there it is. Obviously there is no way to know what brings someone to that final moment but it is also something I could at times slightly understand. I remember the first time I came face to face with a suicide was as a freshman in high school when one of our seniors killed himself just one month shy of his graduation. Although I was going through the usual rumblings of Continue reading

Big Buddha

Love this Big Buddha bag, especially the color, which is still one of my favorites for this season and next. Any shade of turquoise, mint, green and olive, even more so when layered and mixed.
