The Meteor, Sundance 2013

This year Sundance sent us all links to Festival Scope where we can watch some of the films we missed at the festival. Clearly, they realize who they’re dealing with and that for film addicts like us there is simply no end to how many hours of French films we can watch. Which, brings me to The Meteor by Francois Delisle. A film I did not get a chance to see at Sundance but watched online. It’s a beautiful Canadian film (French with subtitles) about a man serving a 14 year prison sentence whose long time girlfriend and mother deal with the before, during and after. It’s told in voiceover with incredible images as the main narrative. I loved it, the sounds and cinematography are amazing.

Dawn Olivieri in Kevan Hall

Dawn Olivieri wore this Kevan Hall gown to a pre-SAG event at The Chateau this weekend. I loved it the moment I saw it at the showroom a few months ago, so glad we got to put it to good use. I think the layers are sublime. Reason number one to love Awards Season is the dresses!

Perricone MD, Intensive Pore Treatment

Perricone MD is a line that never disappoints. There are a few names in beauty that always come through on what they promise and this is one of them. The newest Intensive Pore Treatment promises to reduce pores and lines while leaving skin tighter and controlling oil production and does just that. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and am obsessed with how my skin is reacting (my skin is moody and doesn’t always respond to every product). It’s smoother, cleaner, and feels fantastic.

Sundance 2013, Talent To Watch

There is always so much young talent that gets discovered at Sundance and this year was no different. Lindsay Burdge, photographed at Sundance above by our talented friend Katie Jones for an article that our other friend (and my awesome ex-coworker) Marcy Medina wrote for WWD, is one of the hot ones along with Will Brittain, who both co-starred in Hannah Fidell’s, A Teacher. I also thought Amy Seimetz was amazing as the lead in Upstream Color with Shane Carruth (a serious one to watch as a director as well, but that’s old news by now). Xavier Samuel and Ben Mendelsohn from Two Mothers were pretty hot too. I fell in love with Ariana Neal in Ryan Coogler’s first feature Fruitvale. It goes without saying that Coogler is a huge young (he’s 26!!!) director to watch, with his film being bought by Weinstein and picking up the US Dramatic award. His lead actor, Michael B Jordan, is not new by any means but he is insanely talented, which we all knew the moment we saw him in The Wire and Friday Night Lights (and Parenthood, yes, I watched it). Champagne & Heels Dinners At Sundance

This year I had the honor of hosting private dinners for the cast and filmmakers of several films. Toy’s House (directed by Jordan Vogt Roberts) and Milkshake (directed by David Andalman and starring Tyler Ross, Shareeka Epps and Georgia Ford) on Saturday and A Teacher (directed by Hannah Fidell and starring hot new comers Lindsay Burdge and Will Brittain) on Sunday evening. Art + Farm sent me lots of cases of wine for the three dinners and thanks to Rob & Kat McDonald the guests got to enjoy amazing wine from Napa Valley. It was a fantastic weekend and I am thrilled I got to host these cool indie films, packed with amazing new talent as well as some of my favorite comedic actors, who barely have to wink in order to make me laugh i.e. Nick Offerman and his insanely funny wife Megan Mullally, who costarred with Alison Brie and the incredible Moises Arias, Nick Robinson and Gabriel Basso in Toy’s House. Alexis Mabille Couture Spring 2013

While we were at Sundance the Couture shows started in Paris. And while I love Paris and would use any excuse to be there, I have to admit, I would choose the line at Holiday Village Theatres over Couture any day. I covered couture a couple of times while working as Fashion Director for Russian Elle and it was truly amazing but I wouldn’t give up Sundance for it. Seven Days At Sundance 2013

When I’m standing in the press theatre line at Sundance, I am with my people. We laugh and cry during films, wax nostalgic about the volunteers whose faces we see year after year and get over excited and emotional about our film schedules. Yup. Film geeks all around with our bags full of snacks so we never have to leave the line. Every Sundance takes on a personality of its own but the one thing you can always rely on is seeing great films (even if on occasion you hit a dud). I always have so much that I love but definitely a few stand outs that I obsess over.
